 MEDICSTRAVEL
was originally set up to help doctors, nurses and
students
arrange work and electives overseas. We provided the
information, you then had to do the work!
However,
many
people are too busy with work or exams, and sometimes
it's just difficult to know where to start....so, by popular
demand, we have set up a system to help.
What we do:
We have contacts with hundreds of
hospitals and organisations around the world. We can approach
them on your behalf and try to arrange a placement, either as
an elective, or for voluntary or paid work (depending on the
situation)
We obviously can't guarantee to
be able to organise everyone's first choice, but we will try
our best.
Note: While we can organise
electives in the US and Australia, experience has shown that
you are probably better off organising electives in such
places directly. The medical schools have set programmes and
charge accordingly. Look at the links in the relevant sections
of this website.

Stages to the service - have a read through all
three before proceeding.
WE REGRET THAT THERE IS A
TEMPORARY DELAY IN PROCESSING ELECTIVES - PLEASE FILL IN THE
FORM BELOW, HOWEVER WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO ANSWER YOU
IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU HAVE ALREADY REQUESTED AND ELECTIVE
THROUGH US, DON'T WORRY - WE'RE WORKING ON IT!
STAGE 1:
Give us a brief outline of what you want to do - we'll then
get back to you with some tips and an idea of whether what you
want to do is possible! This bit is free - simply fill in these boxes below:
STAGE 2:
Once you've got an
e-mail back from us and if you decide to proceed we need the
following from you:
 Please
e-mail 1 to 3 of the above as attachments to: electives@medicstravel.org
What you will then get from
us:
¤ We
will approach your first three choices in order requesting an
elective for the period of your choice.
¤ Depending on your choices, you may be required to fill in
specific forms
¤ We will contact you to discuss all options
¤ As soon as we have got a placement, we will let you know
¤ We will offer discounted travel
insurance (with great cover including needle sticks and exam

What if I change my mind or
you can't organise what I want?:
We ask for payment up front as
we have found that some students let us do all the work and
then change their minds! Here's how it works
1) If we get a placement at one
of your three choices and then you change your mind or develop
alternative plans, we will not be able to provide you with a
refund.
2) If we are unable to fulfill any of your first three
choices, then we will refund you £45. We have to hold a
minimum charge of £50 as investigating electives is extremely
time consuming, especially if you have chosen somewhere
awkward or remote.
Why do we charge a fee?
The
process of organising work or electives is actually very time
consuming and we have to cover our costs. We have done
absolutely everything to keep these to a minimum. PLEASE
NOTE: Some medical schools and hospital sadly have their own
fees as well - we will inform you of this. Unfortunately they
still need to be paid in addition to our research fee. We can of course advice you against these places and find
ones that don't charge! |
