![]() AUSTRIA
Population: 8 million Language: German Capital: Vienna Currency: Euro Int Code: +43 Notes for elective students: There is an Exchange programme for medical students within the International Federation of Medical Students (IFMSA). The programme offers to medical students the possibility to work in a medical institution (e.g. hospital). In Austria the exchange programme is organized by the Austrian Medical Students Association (AMSA) (The National Exchange Office, AMSA, c/o Liechtensteinstrasse 13, A–1090 Vienna, Austria www.amsa.at). Students coming to Austria are assigned to a University hospital in Graz, Innsbruck or Vienna. Free board and lodging are provided. Working languages are German and English, though obviously German is needed to communicate with patients. July to September are AMSA’s preferred times of exchange as this is when most elective students are present. The IFMSA exchange is operated on a bilateral basis ... for each student they accept they send one out to the applicant country. This can be a problem in the UK since, as there is no medical students association, there is no one to organize this. For this reason, direct exchanges between hospitals in the UK and Austria are therefore proposed. Useful Addresses: Federal
