The First Affiliated Hospital (the
First College of Clinical Medicine). Originally founded in 1915 the
hospital, with very up-to-date facilities, has 42 wards providing 1136 beds
and an outpatients department seeing 5000 patients per day. It is a centre
of excellence both for clinical care and research. As well as being a
tertiary referral centre, it also runs a special primary care office for
local people. It is renowned for its excellence in renal, cardiovascular and
oncological diseases. It has an outpatient acupuncture department treating
sciatica, headaches, tinnitus etc. It has six very active research
institutes. It is quite a way out of Beijing and a slog to get to.
The
Peoples’ Hospital at Beijing Medical University is
effectively the second affiliated hospital. It too has a number of
specialities.
The Third Affiliated Hospital.
The hospital was founded in 1958 as a general hospital and in 1987 the
Beijing Medical University decided to set up its third college of clinical
medicine in it. It has 945 beds and all major medical and surgical
specialities. Some interesting departments include the department of
traditional Chinese medicine and the central sterilization room. It has the
national departments of sports medicine. There are four research centres,
including sports medicine, laser medicine and plastic surgery.
There are a number of other affiliated hospitals (the sixth is concerned
with mental health); contact the University for more.
